Invasive species are plant and animal species, which when faced with no native predator can thrive without competition. This can lead to the loss of native species, such as the red squirrel, or even impact on our infrastructure and the fishing of our lakes and rivers.

The ‘Invasives Ireland App’ provides information on alien and potentially invasive species in Ireland and an overview of their potential impact and distribution. Information is provided on over 150 different plants and animals, both terrestrial and aquatic. The app will also allow the user to record sightings of these species in the field, providing the most up-to-date data on the spread of alien species.

This app is simple to use and is ideal for everyone such as ecologists, gardeners, hillwalkers, community volunteers, Tidy Towns committees and students.

The ‘Invasives Ireland App’ was developed by Longford Local Authorities in partnership with the Heritage Council, National Biodiversity Data Centre and Invasive Species Ireland. It was co-funded by the Heritage Council and is an action of the County Longford Heritage Plan.
